Yours as a Gift With Purchase

September shopping. It’s the perfect storm of end-of-summer clearances, back-to-school sales and fall shopping incentives. A chance to stop in to check in on my favorite indulgence—shoes.

Over the weekend, I dropped into Macy’ with one particular item in mind (black peep toe pumps). Determined to stay on budget, I was on a mission to find the perfect pair and nothing else. No meandering through clothing racks or browsing through the handbag section today. I headed straight towards the shoes when out of the corner of my eye I caught the “Free Gift with Purchase” promotion sign at the Benefit counter. Before I knew it, the perfect pair of heels was no longer on my radar and I had a rainbow of tested eye shadows on the back of my hand.

There is something about that gift with purchase that gets me every time. I probably won’t ever even use the miniscule tube of anti-aging cream or the lipstick that comes inside. More often than not, I justify myself by saying something like, “Well, it all came in the had-to-have cheetah print bag with the black ribbon that I know I will use for everything!” On this fateful shopping day, I left Macy’s toting my peep toe pumps, $75 worth of Benefit products and a FABULOUS gift with purchase.

As soon as I got home, the first thing I pulled out of my shopping bag was the perfect packaging for my free gift with purchase. I displayed it proudly on my dresser because of everything I acquired on this shopping expedition, this item completely won me over. Sometimes they say it’s what’s on the inside that counts, but I beg to differ… sometimes it’s what’s on the outside that makes all the difference.

Its just like when you buy a Vera Bradley bag and they throw in a bottle of water with a label that has the print of your bag on it. It makes the purchase so worth it.
