Color Me Purple

 Celeb Purple

Purple is the hot new color for celebs this fashion season.  Pantone, Inc., the leading authority on professional color standards for the design industries, selected blue-purple as the color of the year for 2008.  Left to right are Hilary Duff, Charlize Theron, and Sophia Bush.

It’s fall – the leaves are changing color and falling (somewhere other than Arizona). The nights come earlier. The mornings later. Women everywhere are getting excited, translating the change of seasons into the need for a new fall wardrobe. This can only mean one thing to me – SHOPPING.

It’s an overused word, thrown around casually, but a word I do not take lightly – “Shopaholic”. I am confessing now, I’m a Shopaholic in the true sense of the word and I’m proud of it. Proud of it because I never, never, pay full price. Never. If it’s not on sale, I don’t buy it.

But this prowess does not come without serious preparation and complete dedication. Situated on the floor and drink in hand, I surround myself with stacks of fashion magazines. Preparations for the ceremonial wardrobe hunt begin. Perusing each page, I note the styles, colors, and trends for the current season – what’s hot and what I want. Though relaxing, this is serious business - this is the research that will ultimately shape my fall 2008 wardrobe. And what a wardrobe it will be!

I pause to take note of the fall “it” colors – purple reigns supreme with hues of grape, plum, and eggplant painting each page. As I thumb through Elle, Glamour, and InStyle, I see that celebrities, including Natalie Portman, are already loving the regal hue, dressing in purple from head to toe even their sunglasses, shoes, and boots. Now armed with enough ideas on this fall’s styles, I head out in pursuit of my own fashion trends (half-price of course).

My first stop leads me to a fabulous braided scoop-neck tank – plum intertwined with steel grey. And then, my never-fail favorite shop had the perfect grape baby doll dress, adorned with a pleated neckline and tied with a bow. Many stores and clothing racks later, I had reached the pinnacle of my shopping excursion; a dressing room full of fantastic autumnal possibilities. I decided I would settle on only the best buys and best fit, regardless of color or trendiness. I picked through the wreckage of my dressing room, came up with a handful of dresses and tops and proudly carried them off to the sales lady. As she rang up my purchases, she commented on my carefully-made selections – to my surprise they were all varying shades of purple! Talk about the power of advertising!
